London folk-rock act Dry The River have been around since 2009 touring and gaining a very decent following, so why is it that only now, after three years and three EPs that they’ve finally gotten around to releasing their debut LP, Shallow Bed?
It’s strange because we never really sat down to write a debut album. At least not in the sense of sitting down for long periods of time with the intent of making a record. Most of the tracks have been written over a couple of years. Some of the older songs featured – like ‘Shaker Hymns’ – I wrote back when I was 17/18 years old. The newer song on the record is probably the third track, ‘Shield Your Eyes’, which is still very fresh and was actually written while we were in the studio. It was a very fragmented recording process too as we were in Europe touring, so we’d work on it for about ten days and then go back to it a few weeks later. It became a bit of a haphazard schedule in the end, it was very unstructured in that sense. -Peter Liddle
…in any case, good things come to those who wait. Being heralded as leading the charge in the new wave of indie folk, Dry The River have come at the right time and with the right sound, all comparisons to Mumford & Sons aside.
Playing a gig here in Berlin at Magnet, thanks to the wonderful people at Queen About Music, Blitzgigs has two double passes for the show to giveaway.
